Type 2 conditional sentence or second conditional is a conditional sentence that is used when the result of the condition is not or is only unlikely to be realized because the condition cannot be fulfilled in the present (the current situation is not real) or the condition is difficult to fulfill. happen in the future.

Klausa if (kondisi)Klausa utama (hasil/akibat)
If + simple pastpresent conditional atau present continuous conditional
If this thing happenedthat thing would happen.
As in all conditional sentences, the order of the clauses is not fixed. You may have to adjust pronouns and punctuation marks when changing clause order, but the meaning is the same.
Example :
  • If it rained, you would get wet.
  • You would get wet if it rained.
  • If you went to bed earlier you wouldn't be so tired.
  • You wouldn't be so tired if you went to bed earlier.
  • If she fell, she would hurt herself.
  • She would hurt herself if she fell.

B. Function

This form is often used in type 2 conditional sentences. It expresses an unfinished or ongoing action or situation, which is a possible result of an unreal condition.

Example :
  • If the weather wasn't so bad, we would go to the park. (Tetapi, cuacanya buruk sehingga kita tidak bisa pergi.)
  • If I was the Queen of England, I would give everyone a chicken. (Tetapi, saya bukan sang Ratu.)
  • If you really loved me, you would buy me a diamond ring.
  • If I knew where she lived, I would go and see her.

Penggunaan "if I were" dan bukan "if I was" (subjunctive mood) adalah benar dan sangat umum digunakan.

Example :
  • If I were taller, I would buy this dress.
  • If I were 20, I would travel the world.
  • If I were you, I would give up smoking.
  • If I were a plant, I would love the rain.

Dalam kalimat type 2 conditional, Anda juga dapat menggunakan modal dalam klausa utama dan bukan would untuk menyatakan tingkat kepastian, izin, atau rekomendasi mengenai hasil atau akibat akhir.

Example :
  • We might buy a larger house if we had more money
  • He could go to the concert if you gave him your ticket.
  • If he called me, I couldn't hear.

rumus dan penjelasan conditional sentence type 2

If-clause dapat menempati awal atau tengah kalimat. Ketika if-clause menempati awal kalimat, koma ditempatkan sebelum main clauseIf … not dapat digantikan dengan unless.

Were Menggantikan Was

Pada conditional sentence type 2were digunakan menggantikan was meskipun menggunakan singular subject (subjek tunggal: 3rd person pronoun (she, he, it) atau noun). Hal ini untuk menunjukkan bahwa pengandaiannya benar-benar hanya berupa khayalan semata karena condition-nya tidak mungkin dipenuhi (present unreal situation).
