conditional if zero
Assalamualaikum WR. WB
1. Definition conditional
In simple terms, a conditional sentence is a compound sentence that contains conditions relating to an assumption, imagination, or event that has not yet happened. In English sentences, this conditional sentence begins with an 'if' as a sign that this condition has not occurred. The conditional sentence form is "If-clause + main clause". If you notice, the if clause is part of a conditional sentence. Whereas the main clause usually contains consequences or consequences of predetermined conditions.
2. Types of Conditonal Sentences
A. ) Conditional sentence type 0
Zero Conditional is one type of Conditional Sentence in English. Another name for this type of Conditional is Conditional Sentence Type 0. For friends who have studied the Conditional Sentence material before, of course you are already familiar with the terms "main clause" and "if clause". But if this is the first time for you to know Conditional Sentences, then I think you need to start the learning process this time by learning Conditional Sentences in general first.
This type is usually referred to as conditional zero sentences. This type of sentence is used when the result or result of a condition is manifested alias explains general truth and scientific facts. This sentence is usually in the form of the present tense with the formula if + simple present, simple present.
Example sentences :
- If we burn paper, it becomes ashes.
- I feel nauseous if I eat too much.
- If you don't brush your teeth, you can get cavities.
- When people smoke, their health is disturbed.
B.) Conditional sentence types 1
The first conditional sentence is the conditional sentence form used when the result or effect is likely to occur in the future. This can occur because there are realistic and reasonable conditions for the possibility to occur. Therefore, the sentence form in this first type of conditional sentence is in the form of a simple future sentence, aka the sentence that will come. The formula for this sentence is: if + simple present, simple future "will" / imperative and examples are:
- If I meet him, I will introduce myself.
- I will cook dinner if you clean the house.
- If you rest, you will feel better.
- If you set your mind on a goal, you will eventually achieve it.
- If it rains, I'll stay home.
- If she gives him chocolate, he will be happy.
- If it's not raining, we'll go to the library.
C.) Conditional sentence type 2
The second conditional sentence is a type of conditional sentence that is used when the result or the result has little hope of being realized even though it is unlikely. So it can be said that this second type of conditional sentence does not happen automatically but can also become a reality. In this sentence form, the formula used is if + simple past / were, would / could / might + bare infinitive. The use of would / could / might serves to explain how big a condition will be. Example:
- If I inherit a billion dollars, I'll go to the moon.
- If I had a zoo, I would probably let people interact more with the animals.
- If I were you, I would continue my studies.
If I have time, I'll go with you.
- If he meets his mother, he will be very happy.
- If it rains tomorrow, I'll sleep all day.
- If I were you, I would tell you the truth.
D.) Conditional sentence types 3
The third conditional sentence is a conditional sentence when a condition cannot be realized at all. It can be described as a completely impossible state or just a dream or imagination. In this third type of conditional sentence, the sentence form uses the past perfect equipped with auxiliary modalities such as would, could, and should. The formula used is if + past perfect, would / should / could / might + have + past participle. Example of sentences:
- If you remember to invite me, I will attend your party.
- We might have gone to South America if she wasn't pregnant.
- If you tell me you need a ride I'll be leaving early.
- If I have cleaned the house, I can go to the movies.
- If he doesn't take the course, he won't get a scholarship.
- If I lock my car, the thief will not steal my car.
- If I lock my car, the thief will not steal my car.
